  • Where to find the best vintage stores in Berlin

Hardly any other European city is as famous for its vintage-inspired style as Berlin. In Berlin, everything is allowed in terms of style, it can – indeed should – be loud, wild and different. As a native Berliner, our author knows where to find the best pieces in Berlin’s vintage jungle.

Whether in Neukölln, Charlottenburg, Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg or Mitte – you’ll find great vintage stores in all of Berlin’s districts. But the best vintage stores you will find in the alternative district of Neukölln. Here you can visit several vintage stores in one day and be inspired by the trendy outfits of Berliners.

The sheer variety of vintage and second-hand stores in Berlin can sometimes be overwhelming, as many stores have large displays that require extensive browsing through decades-old clothing. We personally prefer vintage stores that are well-organized and pre-sorted. Sometimes these stores are a little more expensive than Humana and the like, but you can usually find the most beautiful vintage outfits here. These stores offer a curated selection of vintage pieces, making it easier for you to find what you’re looking for without having to dig through huge piles of clothes.

There are few better feelings than discovering your new favorite piece in a vintage store, aren’t they? It’s a unique experience when you know that the bag, shoes or cardigan you’ve found are one-of-a-kind pieces that no one else has. In a world where fast fashion trends come and go in the blink of an eye, true vintage treasures stand the test of time. Vintage pieces convey a sense of history and individuality that mass-produced clothing simply cannot.

Berlin not only has great vintage stores, but also a large number of flea markets that offer fashion at particularly low prices. We recommend the RAW flea market, Nowkoelln flea market and Mauerpark flea market.

And if you prefer to buy your vintage clothes online or don’t feel like trying on clothes directly in the store, we recommend the Vinted app – Berliners always find real treasures here. We also recommend always checking out the Instagram profiles of your favorite vintage stores, as many second-hand stores also sell their pieces online.

So, grab your best friend and have fun browsing through our favorite vintage stores in Berlin!

    Atelier Madre – Manuel Dreesmann

    Photos: New Day To Explore

In times of fast fashion and ever-accelerating production cycles, many of us long for accessories that were crafted with care, skill, and longevity in mind. Pieces you’ll still cherish decades later, remembering exactly when and where you found them.

Atelier Madre by designer Manuel Dreesmann, who originally hails from Hamburg, captures this spirit perfectly: The leather shop in El Born offers only in-house made goods. Step inside, and you’ll see the designers at work – shaping your bag, belt, or wallet by hand in what they fondly call their “open kitchen” concept. Every item is crafted right there in the atelier using vegetable-tanned leather from Igualada, a Catalan town known for its leatherworking tradition.

What we especially love about this store concept: most products can be fully customized. Like a bag but want it in red with shorter straps? No problem. Atelier Madre is 100% consumer-focused – with a level of flexibility and personalization that’s become rare in today’s market.

The collection includes belts, wallets, MacBook sleeves, bags, pouches, keyholders, geometric handbags, jewelry – and even a few kinky masks. We, Viv and Eva, opted for a sleek black wallet and a personalized passport holder with engraved initials (fancy!).

Atelier Madre, right in the heart of El Born, is the perfect stop when you’re visiting Barcelona and looking for a one-of-a-kind gift that will last a lifetime – whether for yourself or someone special. Learn more about this unique atelier and other cool gift stores in Barcelona.

  • Atelier Madre by Manuel Dreesmann – The Open Atelier in El Born Where You Can Watch Your Bag Being Made

“I called him her husband. She called him her boyfriend. She bought a long bracelet. He bought a choker. We didn’t press further. The jewellery seemed to understand.”

Atelier Madre by German designer Manuel Dreesmann collects these little stories — observations from behind the counter that say as much about the products as they do about the people buying them. They’re moments that stick, and they’re part of what makes visiting this El Born store feel more personal than just a shopping trip.

When they invited us over to see the space in the old town of Barcelona , we found the shop exactly as people describe it: part boutique, part working atelier (they call it open kitchen concept), and entirely open. There’s no hidden backroom; the workbenches, tools, and half-finished pieces are all in plain view. The result is a space where browsing and making happen side by side, and where every product on the shelf has a story — sometimes one that’s still unfolding.

Everything is Made in the Store in El Born

All of Atelier Madre’s products are handcrafted on-site by their team of artisans. While we were there, one of them was sewing a bag while chatting to customers. People would pause mid-browse to watch, ask a question, and then carry on looking through the shelves.

One customer came in and found a bag she liked, but asked for the pockets to be placed differently and the leather in another colour. The team took the request and told her it’d be ready the next day. This willingness to adapt designs is part of the experience here — it’s understood that each customer might want something a little different.

“We have full transparency. Everything is made over here. We make sure that the product is something that speaks to the customer so that they find something that they really love.” – Aymen from Atelier Madre

    Locally Sourced, Premium Materials

Atelier Madre uses vegetable-tanned leather from Igualada, a small town outside Barcelona with a long history of leather craftsmanship. Vegetable tanning avoids the harsh chemicals of chrome tanning and results in a leather that develops its own patina over time. It’s a slower, more traditional method that gives the material depth and character.

In the store, new pieces sit next to older ones, showing how the leather ages and changes. It’s not about keeping things pristine; it’s about celebrating how something improves with wear.

    No Deadstock, No Overproduction

The atelier only produces in small batches or to order, meaning there’s no excess stock waiting for clearance sales. This approach cuts down on waste and ensures that every item has a purpose from the moment it’s made.

Even small offcuts are used. Pieces that might otherwise be thrown away become bookmarks, earrings, AirPods holders, or keychains. Every scrap is put to work, which feels consistent with their approach to slow, thoughtful production.

    Customisation and Personalisation

Customisation is part of the process here, not an extra. Customers can change colours, adjust designs, or add personal touches like initials or dates. Wallets can be ready in about an hour, jewellery in twenty minutes, and woven bags by the next day.

It’s also why we’d recommend Atelier Madre to anyone looking for gift stores in Barcelona with something unique. A bag or piece of jewellery that’s been tailored to the recipient’s style feels more personal — and it’s the kind of gift that will come with its own story.

    All Types Of Leather Goods

Bags and wallets are their most recognisable pieces, but the range extends to:

    • Bookmarks
    • AirTag holders
    • Key wallets and keychains
    • Dog collars, leashes, and poop bag holders
    • Leather visors
    • Tissue box covers
    • AirPods holders
    • Belts
    • Bracelets and earrings
    • Leather masks
    • Passport holders

The smaller accessories are ideal for travellers or anyone who wants something handcrafted without committing to a larger piece.

While Atelier Madre has its share of local regulars, a lot of their customers are visitors who’ve seen the brand on TikTok or Instagram and made it part of their trip. The location in El Born means it’s easy to combine a visit with exploring some of the coolest boutiques in Barcelona or the neighbourhood’s cafés, bars, and galleries.

The staff love to help and answer all your questions, happy to walk you through a design or explain the techniques they’re using. It’s the kind of place where the interaction is part of the purchase, and where the product you leave with has a clear link to the person who made it.

Atelier Madre: Why It’s Worth a Visit

Atelier Madre blends craftsmanship, transparency, and personalisation in a way that feels rare. The open atelier concept invites you into the process, while their small-batch production and sustainable sourcing keep the focus on quality over quantity. And sometimes, if you’re lucky, you leave with more than just a leather bag or bracelet — you leave with a story, like the couple choosing jewellery for each other, no labels needed.

  • Vintage stores in Barcelona that won’t disappoint you

Attention (sustainable) fashionistas: We have assembled our favorite vintage stores in Barcelona for you.

Barcelona is known for its large selection of second-hand stores, especially in districts such as Raval, El Born and Gótico. However, at least half of these stores are a collection of old (and far too expensive) vintage sportswear and patterned shirts. Instead of rummaging through mountains of clothes, we want to make your life easier and introduce you to the following vintage stores in Barcelona. A mixture of vintage boutiques, all-time favorites, and concept stores with attention to detail.

Enjoy the thrill of shopping sustainably. There’s a unique joy in discovering a rare vintage gem that’s one-of-a-kind, a feeling that’s hard to replicate with mass-produced items.

Happy hunting at the following vintage stores in Barcelona!

Let’s start with one of our personal favorites. Zoetrope Vintage is a vintage store in Barcelona’s El Born district. If you enter the store, you’ll find a white cloud above your head and a great selection of vintage pieces in two rooms. Zoetrope’s collection ranges from unique vintage pieces to contemporary designs. They also have a rack outside with five € per piece.

At Zoetrope Vintage, you can find independently owned, hand-picked vintage and secondhand clothes for all genders, locally designed and upcycled pieces, jewelry, and accessories like sunglasses. They have a great selection of midi and maxi skirts, which we love.

As Zoetrope has three vintage stores in Barcelona, we wanted to highlight them twice. You can live out your vintage fantasies in the Raval neighborhood at Zoetrope. Compared to the store in Born, we describe the vintage pieces as edgier and more Y2K. From satin corsages to mini skirts, oversized sunglasses, kitten heels, scarves, and tops full of crystals, Zoetrope offers a great selection of 90s and Y2K vintage pieces that will have a special place in your wardrobe. Happy thrifting! Let us know in the comments which Zoetrope vintage store in Barcelona you liked the most.
